All before 7:15 AM
Hi. It's Thursday. No work for Andrea today. No sleep either, Brandi had other plans. So here is our day...all before 7:15 AM. We got up when Pa headed to work (at 6:00), packed the dog and her leash in the car and headed to Pettibone. We figured her beach wouldn't be too busy this early so she could maybe go off-leash for a bit. We were right. So...here's how it went.
She first found a stick to play with...
...and went swimming to get it back after I kept throwing it in the water (silly me).
Then she found a football to play with too. She wouldn't give it up.

So, she took her new ball on a walk to the gazebo to play some catch...
...and then rested up on the cool tile before heading back to the car.
Of course she also hammed it up for a picture with her prize.

How do YOU beat the heat?
So while I was riding with Dale to Minneapolis and driving the car back, Duane was sweating his butt off mowing the lawn (thanks baby!). It's been hot and muggy here in between rain showers. No big deal, better than snow right now.
Anyway, when Duane got done mowing he was looking forward to coming into a house that had the air conditioning on. He did, but it had little effect for him as he sat in the living room. Apparently, Brandi has decided that SHE was going to beat the heat and didn't care to share much. Thanks to this greedy hound, it's 74 degrees in the rest of the house but the living room is just over 80.
I guess you can't blame her, right? I mean, she's got her window, she's by the couch and the chair so she can get pet, and now the air vent? It's a dog's life!

What's new?
Not too much this week. Summer is going WAY to fast. I work MON, WED, and FRI. Today (Tuesday) has me running to Minneapolis with Dale. He'll be getting on a plane to Vegas (turd!) while I'll be driving his van back to our house where it will camp until they get back.
Friday I only work until 4 pm. My scuba diving class starts at 6 that night. four hours Friday and 8-5 Saturday and Sunday. I'm sure I'll fill you in on that next week. The actual dives for certification will happen the second week in July.
Other than that...I'm reading, sleeping, doing sudoku puzzles, petting the dog, etc...
Life is good. Talk to you soon.

Bad Neighbors
Not so long ago our evil neighbor complained that Duane left his squad car parked in front of OUR house too long without moving it. They called his boss and the LaCrescent PD. So...Duane moved his car every 48 hours (this only mattered on his long weekends, twice per month) to alleviate this problem. In order to do this, he'd park in front of our house 48 hours and then drive the squad around the block and park it in the nearest available space to our house, just in front of the neighbors yard for the next 48. They didn't like that either. It doesn't go without notice that they have all 3 of their cars in garages in the back and never need parking in front of their house on a public street, they just didn't like anyone else parking there either.
Now...Duane has grown tired of having to move his squad on his days off. I now park in front of the house, he parks his personal car in the driveway (bike is in the garage) and the squad gets parked out back in the lawn as out of the way for Brandi as possible. They don't like that either. The old lady yelled at Duane calling him names I won't post here. She thinks he should park it on the other side of the lawn (despite the neighbor we like...and our GARDENS on that side). She and her husband went to the PD again to complain. The PD told them what they were full of, except in a polite and professional way. They said he was on his property, the car is not broken down, he can park where he wants to.
Next step, Duane and I are looking at putting in a 3 space gravel lot in the back for parking. We are also pricing out fences. Eventually we wanted to do this anyway, but we figure we can start NOW with the fence on the side of the evil neighbors. Fun, Fun!
Now, just for fun...other evil things they have done to others.
1. When we were having our gutters replaced they chewed on our contractors to make sure that the old gutters weren't landing on their property when they were coming off (they weren't).
2. Old lady has been seen walking the property line picking up the twigs that fall off their bushes and our trees. She would sort the handful of twigs...and those that she thought fell off our trees she would toss back onto our property (not legal to throw debris that fell by nature onto neighboring properties).
3. The neighbor across the alley from us has a sleek, small, black composting bin that she used to store on the back corner of her property near some plants and bushes she had. This corner of her property was directly across the alley from the evil neighbor, so they (the evil ones) decided they didn't like it and supposedly called the police (about what I'm not sure!). Eventually, they complained so much that she moved it to the other corner of her property (now directly across the alley from our house). OOOOOooooo, there is a black compost bin sitting by a garden across the alley from us...HOW TERRIBLE! LOL!
I could go on, but I don't want to. I expect better language and behavior from a "proper lady"...so her behavior and demeanor just disgusts me.
That's my vent. It's ok to laugh!

Tequila!

I was perfectly ready to take Duane out to eat and told him to come to Festival Foods with me. He said "No". I explained it wasn't to grocery shop, just to pick out his own dinner from their nice hot food and salad bar buffet. He said "No".
Grr.
So, I was just about to go in the bedroom to change clothes and was ready to tell him he could kiss my butt if he didn't like what he got for supper...but the next thing I knew he was on the phone with Kurt...asking him if he wanted to go for a ride and go out for dinner at "that Mexican place we ate at before". WOO HOO!!! Surprise date night! It was a beautiful ride, and the Mexican at Tequila's in Onalaska was yummy (as was the Strawberry Margarita)! We capped off dinner with a ride through Pettibone Park (seen in the previous post as Brandi's new favorite hang out).
Since then, we've been out together on another beautiful ride with Gary. I didn't think I'd like riding since something as simple as go-karts scare me...but I do, and I really look forward to more rides and date nights throughout the summer.
Next up....hmm...let me think about that.

Brandi's New Habit
As promised.
So this wonderful dog of ours has figured out that even though she is fed at 4:00 (when we get home from work)...that is usually the time I am also in the kitchen starting to prepare dinner for Duane and I.`She has also gotten quite used to the fact that the last bite or two on either of our plates (or both) typically go to her. If she's really lucky she might even get a bite or two to steal off our forks. This is typical of her behavior, and can you really blame her?

The trick is...now she won't eat her dinner, at least not right away. She used to INHALE it as soon as it hit her bowl. NOW...she MIGHT take a bite or two, but then she waits until after Duane and I have eaten and she's gotten all she's going to get from us before going back to HER bowl. Apparently she wants to make sure she's got enough room for the good stuff!

Now that we're on to her shenanigans we are doing our best to break her of it. We are simply putting the last bite or two on the counter until she finishes her supper, and if she doesn't, no special treats for her. Not sure yet if it's working but we'll see!

Anyway, Brandi went swimming today at Pettibone Park. Not the main beach but an area that lets her walk, swim, and play...That is where I took the pictures in this post. (Wendy, when you come down in July...bring clothes you don't mind getting wet in...we'll take you to her new favorite spot!) More soon...and the next one will involve the hog, not the dog! (ok, bad joke!)

I Know, I Know...
It's been a while, I know. But I promise to make it up to you. I have at least 5 things I can share with you over the next several days. Nothing major for sure...but it should fill you in on what's been going on. First up, Memorial Day Weekend.
Memorial Day weekend brought a house guest for Duane and I. My friend Colleen, formerly of Spring Grove where I was blessed with her students in my band, now resides in Colorado. I haven't been able to see her often but it is always good to catch up when we get the chance. She came in on Saturday and stayed with us until Tuesday. Although she'd never met Duane before, I'm pretty sure we got her approval!
Duane and I were in and out of the house during the day while Colleen attended a graduation and the associated festivities. During the evenings we watched a movie, shared pictures and stories, and chatted well into the night. On Monday I conducted the band at the Memorial Day ceremony in Spring Grove and she made the trip to join us. It seems to me that she was happy to see the band again, but I was a little disappointed in how few students actually realized she was there. They were in such a hurry to leave and enjoy their day out of school that they neglected to look around for friends. I'm sure she would have gotten many hugs if they had slowed down to enjoy the day in the park. Sorry about that Colleen.
I didn't have my camera with me, but I did steal a couple of pics off her facebook that show the personality we were blessed to spend our time with. It was a fun visit, and we very much look forward to next time.

Coming next....Brandi's new habit. (Hey, no kids...just a Duane and a Dog...so...you get to hear all about it!)
