Ya think?

As you MUST know by know from this blog, we have a yellow lab named Brandi. Although Brandi is getting up there in puppy years, she is still our puppy. She begs for attention, likes to frolic and play, and likes to get in the same puppy trouble that dogs get into. So...is it really any surprise that if you leave a playful yellow lab chained up outside while you are trying to water the patch of dirt in back of the deck where you're trying to grow grass...that yellow lab might, just might, decide that you left the sprinkler on for her to play in? Should we really have been surprised that upon going outside to check on her, Duane finds her lounging in a patch of mud with the sprinkler between her front paws? Apparently she was having a Brandi-dandi ol' time. Bad Brandi-Dog...lol!

Sunday without Duane

YEAH RIGHT!

So much for making plans to chill with the dog. 6:30 Sunday morning rolls around and I get to wake up to a doorbell ringing over and over again. (Turned out to be nothing scary, just a schedule mix up). After that, I thought if I let Brandi out she'd let me sleep in. So I let her out and went back to bed where she decided she wanted to play with her ball and give me puppy kisses until I threw it for her. She's too cute to resist. So by 7:10 she had me up and running.

It's now about 7:30 and I'm standing in the grocery store buying just a couple of essentials to get us through. The dog is in the car because I'm not buying anything perishable and I figured she'd like to go for a walk on the bike trail in LaCrosse. This is about the time the phone rings. It's Duane. Grandpa Duenow fell and was going to go to the hospital with a broken hip, would I meet them at the hospital in Willmar? Of course I would, no question but "Aargh..."

I still took Brandi for a decent walk since she was about to spend the day essentially alone. She liked it. By 9:30 we were home, she was pooped and I was on my way out the door again. I remembered to call the Mom's with a Happy Mother's Day and I remembered to call my sister Emily and beg her to check on Brandi later. By the time I was a couple hours north I got called and told to go to St Cloud instead, which I did. After a few hours in the emergency room (all is as well as it can be with Grandpa, he's still feisty and wanting to go home!) it was time to turn around and head home. This time I had to drop Duane off with his bike (about an hour north of the direction I needed to go) so it was about 10:30pm by the time I got home.

The sad part is...when my headlights flashed over the windows as I turned into the driveway, I distinctly saw a Brandi dog sitting at the window waiting for ANYBODY to come home. It was really cute. I felt bad for leaving her so long until I got inside and found a note from Emily that not only had she remembered to come by to feed and poop the dog...but she took some time to play fetch and get puppy kisses of her own. Brandi sends her MANY MANY thanks to Emily (and so do Duane and I...we don't like to clean up if she has an accident!)

So there you have it. No fun pictures. A long weekend. Not the greatest weekend, but hey...Grandpa is doing fine, the dog survived, Pa came home, and my cold is lightening up...things certainly could be worse!

Hope your days and nights are treating you well, thanks for reading!

Weekend Widow

Sigh, how sad. I'm ALL ALONE for an extended weekend. Ok, not alone...I've still got Brandi dog, but we miss Pa. Duane rode to Detroit Lakes on Friday afternoon to attend a benefit and visit his parents. He's going to stay until Monday and then ride straight through to Mason City to do an oil change and adjust the shocks on his bike. Depending on what time he gets there he may have to wait until Tuesday to get in. That means that until late Monday or Tuesday, it's just Brandi and I. Good thing she likes to cuddle. It's been really cute watching her when a motorcycle would ride by, she'd go and whimper at the window thinking Pa was home. As for me...no whimpering. I miss him for sure but I do get to talk to him and do have a dog to cuddle with. I'm also sleeping the time away. I have a bit of a cold and am doing a good job trying to sleep it off. I did have to work Saturday but think I'll try and see some sunshine Sunday and get Brandi out of the house for a while. We need to find something exciting to do to make Duane jealous because he sent us some pictures of his mini "vacation". He's cuddling with the cats at Duane Sr and Wendy's house...with the intent of making Brandi jealous. SO...we'll post those here for you all and let you know how we decide to spend our Sunday without Duane.

I guess that's enough rambling for now. Duane has called to say "check your email" (where I got these pics!) and "goodnight"...so now I can go curl up with some popcorn, the dog, and a movie.

Goodnight.

Eh, my timing was off

I guess the week kind of got away from me. I really did intend on posting earlier this week about the big, new development in the house but I got asked to work some extra hours and both Duane and I have been pretty run down and to bed early. Today is good though. The house is clean, the lawn is mowed, the dog is pooped out and mellow, there are groceries in the house and the weather is beautiful. So...the big news.

1. Duane got his actual motorcycle license (not just the permit) so I was finally able to go for a ride with him. Go Carts scare me...so I was terrified of motorcycles...but it was AWESOME!!! I look forward to riding with him more often on warm summer days. It left my hair an absolute rats nest even though I had it tied back but whatever, it was worth it...and...

2. When we got home, I got to use our new shower!!!! This has been our life the last couple of months.

I think I did a pretty good job not nagging Duane about getting the new tub and surround in (old broken tiles and such...) but man oh man I am SO thrilled that we are now longer showering in the basement. We still have finishing work to do, but whatever, the shower is functional!

Since then, I've worked a few more hours, spent a few more under the weather, and really spent time enjoying the weather with Brandi. We went walking again. We even found a spot where she could get her paws wet in the river. Unfortunately that wasn't enough for her and when I wouldn't let her swim....she flopped down in the mud on river's edge. Lovely. She's lucky she's cute. She's also lucky she likes to play with the hose, it was the only way to clean her off when we got home...of course, she got me just as wet!

I guess that's about it for now. I'm sure I could come up with more trivial blabber, but really, I'd rather fold the laundry and curl up with Duane for a movie (or an episode or two of House!)
