So here I was....

all set to blog about how my sister (Elizabeth) is such a slacker...she kept saying she does not have anything to blog about or whatever. Duane and I came up with a list of stuff she should blog about from her recent history...and wouldn't you know...before I could post that she's a slacker *poof* a new post appeared.

I still think Duane is right. She should still tell the story of her little visit with the cops. Perhaps more on the story of the dogs and the cops too...that would be cute.

How was YOUR holiday weekend?

It's been a few days. But I needed a few days. So, as I sit here watching the Brewer game on MLB gamecast waiting for Duane's uniform to get done in the laundry, I figured I'd share.

My break started on Thursday, April 9. It was my birthday so it was wonderful to not have school on that day! I slept. A lot. Duane had to work. Brandi woke me up around 7 (she really had to go outside) and then the two of us napped and watched the history channel (another favorite!) on and off for a couple of hours...er...most of the day. Other than a super yummy dinner at Dad and Mary's house that night, about all I did that was worth anything was take Brandi for a walk. Not just any around the block walk. We loaded her in the car and took her to the rest area by the lock and dam. Our intention was to cut up and walk on the bike trail, but as we explored around for an easier entrance to the trail (the real entrance requires crossing the busy intersection at the bottom of the exit ramp off the interstate) we got sidetracked and never did make the trail. Instead we found lots of trees to sniff in the dog walk area, and footpaths that lead to picnic areas near the lock. We met a couple of fisherman on vacation from Milwaukee and Brandi was kind enough to let them rub her belly before we continued on. Near the end of the walk, I had a very tired dog so we went up on the grassy end of the terrace and watched the barges and fishermen out on the river for a while.

Friday was spent working on spring cleaning the house. OK, so maybe not truly spring cleaning but certainly eliminating the dog hair that's been shed. In the middle of the afternoon, Brandi convinced me to take her for another walk. Actually, she took me...at least at first. She was pretty pooped on the return leg and decided that since we had actually made the trail this time she'd better pose for some pictures.

This one is a tired dog panting at the turn around point.

And this one is a still tired dog taking a short break in front of the lock. She loves watching the river. We got home from our walk in time to see Pa off on his bike ride. He left us to go out with "the boys" for an evening of riding. One of his friends needed an oil change so they rode together down to Mason City, stayed with a friend and spent some time cruising that area before heading back on Saturday.

I had to work a few hours Saturday evening, but Brandi spent most of the day waiting at her new-found favorite place to sit waiting for Duane to get home.

She missed him, and was upset that we weren't walking again...but I needed her to save her energy for Sunday!

Easter Sunday, Duane and I headed to WI Dells to visit Andy. We dropped Brandi off with her "cousins" in Tomah (where she spent much time running around outside!) and stayed at the Roadway Inn. The reviews I read (after booking) were terrible, but it turns out that the hotel wasn't that bad. It was a $55 room. No frills. Nothing fancy. A bit weird. But it was clean and affordable, so it was perfect. That evening we went to the Kalahari Resort. We met Andy for a yummy dinner with fun food like Duane's volcano dinner...

...and then he showed us around his amusement park. We had fun Go-Carting (totally new for me...those thing scare me!), bowling (I actually broke 100...TWICE), and playing mini-golf. I forgot that getting Duane and Andy together can be a bit bruising for the ego, they team up to pick on me. But hey, at least I'm not the one riding my golf club around the course!

Monday we headed home, I worked a few hours, then went to bed. Now, back to the real world. 33 days until summer break!

My sweet tooth isn't aching...

Normally...it does. As in...I could eat sweets any day, any time. But lately it seems to come and go (this is good!) so I don't feel the need for sweets all the time. It was pointed out to me recently that...

DESSERTS is just STRESSED

...spelled backwards. Does this mean I'm simply not feeling stressed lately? Huh. Ok. Didn't need to share, but thought that others MIGHT appreciate that random connection. Use it to your advantage, or simply as a way to justify your sweet cravings!

Just something cute

This came to me in an email. It had several of these little quips, but I thought I'd share this set because I thought it was cute.

Candyland Has Arrived!

There is a pretty major new toy in this Brownlee household and Duane is just like a little kid in Candyland over it (hence the title of this post). It took a while to post about this because Duane was just going to ride up and show his parents one day soon...but the weather there is not cooperating so he decided to share sooner.

It's a Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, police edition. The weather has been decent since it arrived at our house so Duane has been putting on miles. He's got several friends from the local departments that also ride so he's got people to go with and has really been enjoying himself. One of these days I'll get him to pose for a picture with his bike...but it will take some effort since neither of us are fond of having our pictures taken.

I'll let you know how it goes after I get over my nerves (and Duane gets his full license) and go for my first ride with him...

Why is it...

...that starting in the middle of January, I could go to the fitness center 5-6 days a week for roughly an hour or more each time and not lose 1 single pound in 2 months?

...and then I hit a patch where I'm just tired. I pushed through the extremely busy times of the beginning of March and now that things have slowed just a touch, I've been ready to crash at night...and allowed myself to do it. I've simply said, "I'm not going tonight". I haven't been there at all in 1 week and only 2 or 3 times in the last couple of weeks. What's my punishment for this lapse in determination? I lost 2.5 pounds. Go Figure!

I guess I've learned that you don't have to kill yourself, just work a little. I figure if I cut back to 3-4 days per week, walk to the dog more often, and continue to REALLY watch what I eat...MAYBE I'll have finally found the right mix for me... of course that is unless it was just my scale playing an April Fool's Day joke on me.

Huh. Well. That's it for now! Exciting pictures to come later this week or this weekend. Duane finally told his mom the "big surprise"...so now I can share!
